Toyloy Brown III '18
Toyloy is a senior at Cardinal Hayes High School and is from the Bronx. He is an avid fan of writing and sports. He has participated in honors classes since his freshman year and currently takes courses such as AP English Literature and Composition, Collegiate Church History, and Precalculus Honors. Inside Cardinal Hayes, Toyloy has participated in numerous clubs and activities. Currently, he is a member of The Challenger, Chess Club, Channel H (film production club), and the Student Government. Alongside those extracurricular activities, Toyloy is a student sports reporter for Cardinal Hayes’ athletics website.
On the site, he writes weekly articles for Cardinal Hayes’ basketball, football, and lacrosse teams. He is the first to ever hold such a position and has held it since his sophomore year. At the end of his junior year, Toyloy was recognized with the highest honor a Hayesman can receive as a student, President’s Man. As one of 20 seniors with this distinction, Toyloy participates in various events that promotes Cardinal Hayes to prospective students, provides leadership to current Hayesmen, volunteers time to attend alumni events, and have monthly lunch with the principal and president of the school to discuss matters relating to the student body.
Outside of school, Toyloy is a member of a college program called Opportunity Network (a NYC program that provides access to career opportunities, professional networks and college preparation to students seeking career development) and is a writer for a magazine called YCteen (a non-profit organization that helps marginalized youth reach their full potential through reading and writing.). At YCteen, Toyloy is an intern who has his own sports column in the magazine called T.J’s Take. When not working with any one of these responsibilities, Toyloy likes to watch sports and spend time with his family. In the future, he would like to pursue a career as a sports writer and broadcaster. (Assistant Editor)
