A FIRST FOR HAYES:
TRIP TO PERU
The trip to Peru proved to be a wonderful experience with amazing educational value. It was interesting to learn more about the different lifestyles of Peruvians by enjoying their culture, food and music.
In Lima, Peru we learned about the city life of Peru and about the history of Lima. I found myself in awe of all the Spanish-style buildings and architecture. In Cuzco, we saw the other half of Peruvian life; the one deep in the country, which was quite different from city life. I witnessed the slower more spacious lifestyle of Peruvians.
We learned about the history of the Incas and what happened during their interaction with the Spaniards. It was interesting to see how Incan culture still has influence in Peru – for example with the clothing and weaving, agriculture, and more.
While trying the delicacy called “cui” in Peru (actually guinea pig!), I felt more immersed into the culture and lifestyle and almost felt like I was getting accustomed to the life over there. However, the best part was visiting the Incan ruins, especially Machu Picchu. Words cannot describe the beauty, mystery, and amazement of witnessing the way people lived centuries ago and finding out why the Incas were one of the smartest and strongest nations of South America. I felt as if the ruins were time capsules, and I was being told a story while visiting.
Overall it was an outstanding experience, despite the altitude sickness, and I would recommend doing any of the Hayes’ trips you can do!
